Physicians park hundreds of thousands of dollars in checking accounts. They are unsure how to proceed with investments and are suspicious of financial markets and advisors. But checking account balances pay zero interest. Savings accounts aren’t much better. Even a low-return (low-risk) investment is better than zero.
Do something with your money. Consider stocks, bonds, or real estate. If you prefer very safe investments, consider money market accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), a high yielding savings account, or US Treasury securities. You can conveniently purchase the latter through the government site: TreasuryDirect.gov. Just don’t sit on the cash.
